History

Hanuman Jayanti is observed to honor the birth of Lord Hanuman, revered in the Ramayana as the embodiment of devotion, courage, and selfless service. Across regions, devotees remember his unwavering dedication to Lord Rama, his role in finding Sita, crossing the ocean to Lanka, and protecting dharma through strength guided by humility.

Rituals

Devotees begin the day with a purifying bath, visit Hanuman temples, and offer sindoor, jasmine oil, betel leaves, and laddoo or boondi as prasada. Recitation of Hanuman Chalisa, Sundar Kand, and Bajrang Baan is common. Many observers keep a fast and perform special aarti during the daytime, especially around the Madhyahna period.

Traditions

Community kirtans, temple processions, and collective path (group recitation) are common traditions on Hanuman Jayanti. In many households, red flags and Hanuman images are placed near entrances as symbols of protection. The day is also considered favorable for prayer for health, courage, and relief from fear and obstacles.
