Dashamata Vrat Katha
Complete katha, vrat vidhi, and spiritual meaning of Dashamata Vrat for family harmony and stability.
What Is Dashamata Vrat Katha?
The most widely recited Dashamata Vrat Katha is about King Nala and Queen Damayanti. The vrat is observed on Krishna Paksha Dashami after Holi, especially in Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, and Gujarat, for peace, protection, and stability in family life.
Dashamata Vrat Katha of Raja Nala and Rani Damayanti
In the traditional katha, King Nala and Queen Damayanti ruled a prosperous kingdom and lived with honor and abundance.
On the day of Holi Dasha, a Brahmani gave Damayanti a sacred Dashamata dora. She performed puja and wore the thread for household prosperity.
After some days, King Nala saw the thread, did not understand its significance, and threw it away. That night Dashamata appeared in his dream as an old woman and warned that his good fortune would decline because of this disrespect.
Soon the kingdom suffered losses. Nala and Damayanti faced severe hardship, left their comforts, and wandered through difficult phases. In many retellings, they even face false accusations and deep humiliation.
Realizing his mistake, Nala sought forgiveness. On Chaitra Krishna Dashami, the couple observed Dashamata Vrat with devotion, worshipped the peepal, honored the dora, heard the katha, and prayed sincerely. By the grace of Dashamata, their fortunes turned and they regained stability and kingdom.
